Job purpose
Crisis Coordinators organize documents, assign cases to the providers, communicate with the Emergency Department staff in order to assist the Psych providers in completing a Psychiatric/Substance Use Disorder Crisis assessment. The Crisis Coordinators then communicate the outcome of the assessments with the ED staff and will begin finding inpatient, residential placement, CSU, or outpatient placement as directed by the psychiatric providers. The Crisis Coordinator s contribute to a positive team dynamic and provides excellent patient centered service.

A. Care: All employees are expected to provide the best possible patient care.
1. Ensure patient psychiatric/substance use care needs are met while in the Emergency Departments.
2. Possesses excellent computer skills, can manage two screens at one time
3. Ensure all required documentation is available prior to assigning the case to the provider
4. Complete daily progress report at the beginning of each shift.
5. Documents in a progress note each interaction regarding the patient who, what time, where,
6. Use basic understanding of legal issues in commitments, guardianship, and voluntary status when talking with ED staff, providers, and inpatient/residential units
7. Uses basic medical terminology and understanding of CMP blood work, Urine Drug screens and normal vitals signs when communicating with providers and the ED.
8. Uses basic understanding of psychiatric diagnosis and terminology when communicating with psychiatric providers, emergency departments, and inpatient psychiatric units
9. Uses strong customer service and strong telephone skills in locating placement for patients
10. Uses critical thinking skills when confronted with a more difficult case
11. Completes all calls and tasks within the time allowed
12. Provides shift report to the Director Crisis Services each shift, as assigned
13. Uses strong communication both written and verbal to communicate with the Emergency Department staff, Psychiatric providers, and the inpatient units.

B. Compliance: Ensure the program operates within all regulations.
1. Have a basic understanding of EMTALA
2. Completes Care Match data collection as indicated.
3. Has a basic understanding of insurance providers in each state.
4. Maintains strict patient confidentiality

C. Community: Become a wonderful addition to your local community.
1. Represents ITP in a professional manner to enhance relationships with the ITP team and the hospital staff.
2. Uses excellent interpersonal skills to be a strong team member
3. Attends 75% of monthly Crisis Coordinator meetings
4. Participates in community/organizational activities as assign

  • Education: Associates degree or equivalent experience with behavioral and or medical setting
  • Experience: One-year experience in providing care to Behavioral health or substance use disorder patients
  • Experience performing clerical duties, working with computers and electronic medical records, and telephones.
  • Knowledge of community resources for psychiatric and substance use patients throughout the state.
  • Hours will be Friday 11pm-7 am and then a double on Saturday 3-11pm then 11-7am.
